Alexander Lodge is situated in a tree lined road just a couple of minutes by foot from Southbourne overcliffe. Enjoy a walk along the paths of the cliff tops or take the zigzag path or the lift down to the beach. The seven miles of beautiful soft sandy beaches and clean sparkling sea justifiably hold the much-coveted Blue Flag Award.
Explore the area
There are many opportunities for walking and cycling to explore the area, and routes to suit both the strollers and the adventurous. There are also very good bus services throughout the region, including an open-top bus that will take you along much of the coastline in the summer. We have Pokesdown train station under a mile away, and Bournemouth Travel Interchange (train and coach station) a short bus or taxi ride away, so even if you don’t want to bring your car, you’ll find it very easy to get around and see all you want to.
Hengistbury Head
Just to the West of us is the lovely Hengistbury Head landmark, which offers lovely walks around it and along Christchurch harbour to Mudeford, or over the top of the headland offering breathtaking views of our World Heritage Jurassic coastline, with it's stunning cliff formations and rugged scenery.
Bournemouth Town Centre
Bournemouth town centre is a ten-minute bus or car ride away and is a hub of culture, activity and attractions, with a well-renowned cosmopolitan feel to it. Great shopping, tranquil gardens, cinemas, theatres, live music venues, a wealth of bars and nightclubs, restaurants and coffee shops - there's something for everyone, throughout the seasons. The central pier and seafront of Bournemouth are a lively focal point for all kinds of beach side entertainments.
Christchurch
The historic market town of Christchurch with it's wonderful Norman priory and castle ruins is 5 minutes drive from the Guest House. Take time to wander it's pretty jumble of quaint streets, lined with shops, traditional pubs and some great restaurants. The priory is well worth a visit and has some intriguing stories to tell. The River Stour and Christchurch Quay offer scenic walks, ferry rides, boat hire, tea gardens, and fishing opportunities.
The New Forest
A 20-minute drive from us (also accessible by bus and train), will take you to the beautiful New Forest, with its wonderful wildlife and free-roaming ponies. The deep woodlands and the wilderness of the heaths are truly captivating. And there's plenty there to see and do, whether it be pony-trekking, cycling, exploring, or simply relaxing in one of its many award-winning ‘foodie pubs'.
